Mow Answers to Frequently Asked Questions

Hey, it’s Gus, the GizMow Customer Service Goat. I love grass but I stopped pretending that I love working for it. Now you can finally admit that you don’t like mowing it, either. Because robotic lawn mowing is better for your yard, the planet and you. Plus you can have delicious, I mean, gorgeous, grass without breaking a sweat. BAAAA!”

Why should I consider a robotic lawn mowing service?

A complete robotic lawn mowing service like GizMow is the best way to achieve a beautiful, healthy lawn with minimal effort on your part and minimal impact on the environment. No noisy mowers or sloppy crews. No emissions generated by the mower. No bagging and disposal. Just quiet, healthy lawn care. Your mower’s energy consumption is extremely low—usually only $10-$50 per mowing season, depending your lawn size. And by having a human service attached to your mower, you don’t have to worry about installation, maintenance or other customer service issues.

Is GizMow a lawn robot manufacturer or a lawn service provider?

GizMow is a lawn robot-based lawn service provider. We don’t make the robots themselves. We sell, install, customize and service them, as well as provide the ancillary services that make the system smart and effective for you. We’re bringing the full benefits of robotic lawn care to St. Louis.

Is the robotic mower safe for cats and dogs?
Yes. Pets typically leave robotic mowers alone. They’re equipped with sensors so when they run into an object such as a pet, they’ll stop, reverse direction and choose another path. If your mower does collide with a pet, the contact is light and unlikely to cause any harm.
Can children play on the lawn while the mower is working?
Your robotic mower’s built-in safety features mean the blade will automatically stop if the mower is lifted up or turned over. Plus, the mower stops and turns around when it encounters an obstacle. The distance between the mower’s outer body and the blade is extra-wide, which prevents hands or feet from reaching the blades accidentally. However, the same rules of thumb apply to robotic mowers as regular mowers. We recommend turning off the mower when small children are playing on the lawn. Even though your mower operates on low power, it’s still possible to nick or cut a body part that comes into contact with the cutting blade.
Are the mowers easy to use?
They couldn’t be easier. Once we install your mower, you don’t need to do anything if you don’t want to. The mower will mow on a set schedule and even recharge itself. Plus, the actual mower is only 15-30 lbs., so if you need to move it yourself, that’s easy to do. With many models, you can even control the mower from your phone or smart speaker!
Do I need to be tech savvy to use robotic lawn care?
No! That’s why we’re here. We handle all the technical aspects. You can simply let the mower do its job and have our human crews handle any trimming, edging and blowing you might need.
How are these mowers better for the health of my lawn?
Because robotic mowers cut a small amount of grass on a continuous basis, the clippings are small enough to be recycled back into the soil as a natural fertilizer. The result is a greener, fuller, healthier lawn. Over time, your lawn starts to feel like a lush carpet!
What’s the maximum mowing area?
Our mowers can mow lawns up to 44,000 square feet (approximately 1 acre), depending on your yard’s complexity. If your lawn is bigger than that, then two or more units can work together.
Can the mower handle all lawn shapes and sizes, as well as tight spaces?
Yes. If you can mow a lawn with a traditional mower, these mowers will work, too. Thanks to its large driving wheels, our mowers work well on uneven ground and slopes up to 24-30°. Unlike traditional mowers, our mowers won’t scalp hills. And they can handle passages as narrow as 24 inches.
Can the mower detect objects such as toys, pine cones and fruit? And what about my garden?
It’s best to keep your lawn free of clutter (including pet waste) to avoid damage to your belongings or your mower’s blades, but your flowerbed or vegetable garden is completely safe after we install the boundary wire.
What about very long grass?
Our mowers work regularly, so grass blades never have an opportunity to grow long. If your grass is long and thick, start with a raised cutting height, gradually reducing to your preferred level. In extreme situations, such as an extremely overgrown area, grass should be cut by a tractor or traditional mower before your robot takes over.
What about rainy or extremely hot conditions?
Your mower is designed to withstand wet, rainy weather. However, we recommend that you bring the mower inside during extreme weather conditions. As for heat, your mower is designed to function in temperatures up to 113ºF. Mowers with NiMH batteries have lower capacity in hot conditions, so the mower will charge and mow in shorter periods. However, the area mowed remains unchanged. Models using Li-Ion batteries mow equally regardless of temperature range.
What if I have a lot of moss in my lawn?
Your mower’s continuous operation will have a positive influence on grass growth, leading to the gradual disappearance of moss from your lawn!
Does the mower have a theft alarm?
Yes. Several theft protection systems can be activated. The mower cannot be used without its personal PIN code. The installation lock prevents it from functioning on any other installation other than your own. The time lock requests your four-digit PIN to be entered at an interval decided by yourself. The alarm requires the PIN code to be entered when your mower is stopped, or an audio alarm will go off. In addition, GPS communication units include a GPS tracker available as an accessory for most models.
How long will my mower’s battery and blades last?
It depends on the type of grass and frequency of mowing, but guess what? You don’t need to worry about it! Your GizMow service plan covers replacing batteries and blades. Plus, we handle winter storage and spring reinstallation.
What is Automower® Connect?

Automower® Connect is a Husqvarna feature that gives you full control of your mower right from your smartphone. The app lets you start, stop or park your mower, as well as check and adjust its settings. Plus, you can receive alarms and track your mower’s position in the event of theft. Automower® Connect is available only on select models, so we’ll cover that in your initial GizMow consultation.

Will my mower work with my smart home system?
Yes! If your mower has Automower® Connect, it will be compatible with Amazon Alexa, allowing it to fit seamlessly into your smart home ecosystem. Husqvarna also plans to make its mowers compatible with other smart home systems in the near future. With this system, you can:

  • Tell your mower to pause while your kids are in the yard.
  • Telling your mower to mow for a certain number of hours.
  • Find out what your mower is doing.
